DIRECTOR'S BIO

IVETE LUCAS is a director, producer, and editor based in Austin, Texas. She was born in Brazil and grew up in Mexico. For the past 10 years, she has been making video art and co-directing observational documentaries with her partner Patrick Bresnan. Their latest short film Skip Day won the Short Film Prize at The Directors Fortnight at Cannes. The Rabbit Hunt, their previous film, won over 20 festival prizes and the Cinema Eye Honor. Pahokee is her first feature length film and will be premiering in the documentary competition at Sundance. 

PATRICK BRESNAN is a visual artist and filmmaker. He received his formal education working for notable Mission School artists Clare Rojas and Barry McGee (TWIST). Patrick holds a masters degree in Sustainability from the University of Texas School of Architecture. He is currently developing a new film in the Florida Panhandle.


Cinematographer’s Bio

JOAQUIN DEL PASO is a Mexican director and cinematographer, who studied at the International Film School in Cuba (EICTV) and at the Polish National Film School in Lodz. His credits as cinematographer include Hel by Pawel Tarasiewicz, The Inspection House by Lucy Pawlak, The Send-Off by Ivete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan, Mercedes by Amat Escalante, and second unit for The Untamed by Amat Escalante. Maquinaria Panamericana, his directorial debut premiered the Berlinale Forum and screened at over 60 international festivals, winning 15 awards.


PRODUCER'S BIO

MAIDA LYNN is the founder of Genuine Article Pictures, a production company that supports non-fiction filmmakers with unique visions who push the form into new directions, with potential to create works the stand the test of time. She executive produced The Send-Off (Sundance ‘16, SFIFF, SXSW, AFI Fest), and co-produced The Rabbit Hunt (Sundance ‘17, Berlinale) and Roadside Attraction (TIFF, SXSW). Her credits as Executive Producer include Sam Green’s live documentary A Thousand Thoughts (Sundance 2017), the forthcoming The Hottest August (d. Brett Story), Queen Of The Battling Butterfly Brigade, and ALEPH. Maida is the producer or the short film Skip Day, which premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight and was released by The Guardian.

CHARLIE PHILLIPS is the Head of Documentaries at The Guardian. Guardian Documentaries is our project to commission and acquire new documentaries from around the world for the one of the world's most visited serious online video platforms, The Guardian's global website. The Guardian is one of the world's most read English Language news and storytelling sources, with over 200m monthly unique browser visits. The Guardian has a long-respected reputation for news, investigation and multimedia. We're looking to commission mostly short form documentaries, from 15-30 minutes. The docs we want need to have brilliant storytelling and characters focused on contemporary subjects which are relevant globally and feel very new. Charlie was previously Deputy Director at Sheffield Doc/Fest for 7 years before joining The Guardian in 2014 to create the documentary strand, and prior to that he was Editor of FourDocs for Channel 4.
